No updates in a long time. Ugh.
We went to Florida for a week then came back and the moving madness started immediately. We had to do last minute packing, order appliances, attend a holiday party, did I mention last minute packing? It was crazy.
The movers showed up as promised. However, the company only provided 2 guys. It was a lot of work for just 2 guys who had to move a hell of a lot of stuff up and down stairs at both homes. The also had limited knowledge of the English language which made it even more fun. I sure wish I had learned a few words in Cantonese from my good friend in VA. Even better was when they said they were finished after 7 hours and boxes were still in our garage. Or when they tried to extort a 20% tip each from Husband. Basically they felt he should pay them $100 each in addition to what he was paying the company. He was having none of that. Good times...not.
On our fifth night here the doorbell rang quite late and someone was banging on the front door. Sticking with my strict do not open policy I talked through the door. Who was it? An auto repossessor trying to get the previous owner's car from our garage. Problem. Previous owner did not leave us her car. This guy at the door would not believe I wasn't the woman and was demanding access to our garage. I demanded he leave and promptly called the police. Of course the guys were gone by the time the officers arrived. I know they will be back at another ungodly hour of the day.
Slowly we are learning the joys of foreclosure home ownership. Previous owner also took all keys, garage door openers, pool pass, guest pass. You name it. We had 2 different locksmiths here. One to re key all the doors and the other to break into the mailbox and put a whole new lock on it and build us keys. That was also fun. And expensive. Hopefully these things will all be sorted out soon. Other than that, the place is great and we are loving it.
