The Hurricane Hunter

I learned on Sunday that there was a possible hurricane headed to FL. I just knew my dad had to have kicked his preparations into high gear. Not surprisingly, I was right.
I called yesterday afternoon and he answered the phone. My mother wasn't there. He had sent her to the grocery store. I suspected she was stocking up on the essentials: milk, bread and toilet paper. Actually, I'm not even sure what the hurricane essentials are. I just know that when I lived in VA at any threat of a snowstorm, the shelves containing milk, bread and toilet paper were bare.
He had been busy. First he decided to fill several empty gas cans with gasoline for the generators. ("If I don't end up needing it, I can just put it into the cars.")
Next he organized his shed. While inside he decided to pull out all the boards for the windows just in case. However, since "it wasn't hurting anything" he went ahead and boarded up all the windows in the house except for the 3 large windows in the front. You might recall those windows have bullet proof glass, so no hurry. ("I figure I can have those boarded up in less than an hour when I get home from work tomorrow.")
I asked if anyone else in the neighborhood was boarding up. The response? "NO! BECAUSE THEY ARE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!!"
You have to know that during this entire conversation there were many interruptions because the weather channel was blasting in the background. He was giving me minute by minute updates and coordinates.
Aside from boarding up the windows there was really nothing else for the man to do but sit around and watch the storm on radar.
Did I ever mention that these people do not live near the water? Not even close. You could almost call it central FL. I seriously doubt anyone else in the entire state is as prepared as this guy.
At least I don't have to worry.

I Just Realized...

I have not posted anything in a while.
Things have been hectic around here. We finally decided on a house and made an offer. We're still waiting to hear from the builder if it will be accepted or not. Because Husband thrives on negotiation of any kind, I'm certain it will not be accepted. He purposely made it low so that he wouldn't feel cheated if it was accepted.
Welcome to my world.

The Total Eclipse Of My Head

You might have seen that early this morning in certain parts of the world, there was an eclipse. Not here. I'll say it again. Not here.
However, this did not stop the phone calls and the warnings coming here from India.

We were not to go outside on this day.
I was not to touch any knives on this day.
Some people had stopped drinking water 24 hours in advance of the event.

No one you ask can explain to you why you should not do these things. No one has a flipping clue.
However, I was all about the one about not touching any knives.
Always looking for a reason/excuse not to have to cook. There it was.
Handed to me from across the world.
