I'll Be Damned

Today while going through boxes at the top of my closet in order to purge myself of any unwanted items, I struck gold. Inside a plastic bag in one box was the elusive, official card containing the radio code for my car stereo. I have no idea why it was in this box. I promptly went down to the garage and reprogrammed the radio. I have tunes!!! Never mind that I don't even drive that car and once we get to California, its days are numbered. No more fighting with Acura dealers over privacy laws. This card has a value of at least $60, so it was almost as good as actually finding cash!

Another Postal Mystery

Last week my grandmother called me to verify my address. She had sent me a card and it was returned to her for no good reason. I thought maybe she had something wrong. In a different state I once lived on Highview. She consistently spelled it Highway. There was never a problem with things coming back. This time I had her read the envelope to me exactly as she wrote it. The whole damn thing was correct. I told her to try again. Today I got the retry in the mail. She sent it exactly 3 days ago....without the zip code. I wreck my brain trying to understand how the wrong address always arrives and the right address gets returned to sender. I'm hoping to have an easier address in Cali.
A note to the Universe: An address with fewer numbers is preferred.

Wake Me Up When November Ends

Things are crazy hectic around here. We still have no place to live in "the bay area," which in my mind still means Tampa Bay, not SFO. Husband dropped the bomb on me the other day that perhaps we should be buying something and not renting since the cheapest things I've found available to rent are around $2500 per month. For about $1000 more per month we could buy. We're supposed to be moving in 4 weeks. I'm really losing it.

The good news is that I am able to start packing for the move in a big way. We acquired all sorts of boxes from the moving company yesterday. They even gave us packing supplies. Husband raised hell with them several days ago and now they are trying to make up for it. Fine with me. I'm going to return the 6 rolls of tape I already purchased for over $20.

The India trip is going to be an adventure this time. In addition to packing and looking for a place to live I've been planning that. We're going on a road trip...by train. At first we were only going to visit Agra to see the Taj, but now we will be spending several days in Delhi first. It will be a 15 hour train ride to get there. Then we will get back on the train and go to Agra. Then back on the train and go to Bhopal to visit family. Then back on the train home. A few days later we will be getting back on a plane to go to Mumbai for a day then back on a plane home. I can't wait to post the pics. I already picked up my prescription for the malaria pills and I'm going for a Hepatitis booster tomorrow.

The Stairs

Last night I sent Husband to look at a condo I found for rent online. It used to be the owner's unit and actually comes with a plasma tv with surround sound already installed in the living room. I've been looking at the ad for it ever since I started looking...which is several weeks. Finally I decided he needed to go check it out since he was in our soon to be new town. I just needed to know why such a nice place hadn't been rented yet. Here is the resulting conversation:

Husband: Yeah. It's an alright place.
Me: What does that mean?
H: Great location. Good neighbors. I even met one of them. He was taking out the trash and we started talking. He has his own business. We exchanged information and business ideas.
M: Cool. What about the actual condo?
H: The carpet will need to be replaced and the kitchen is good but maybe too small.
M: How about the closets? Can they fit all your clothes?
H: They have installed those California closet things so I don't know.
M: Well what else? I'm just wondering why it's been for rent for so many weeks.
H: I think it's because of the stairs. There are a lot of stairs. Too many stairs.
M: We have a lot of stairs in our current home.
H: Put it this way. If one of us forgot something in the car inside the garage, we're going to fight about who goes down to get it.
M: They were that bad?!
H: I've never seen a place with so many stairs.

I'm crossing it off the list. Good location or not. If Mr. Physical Fitness says there are too many stairs, I'm going with it.

Moving Right Along

Not a whole lot going on here. Except for the moving planning. We're still waiting for our estimate from the moving company we've used twice. The one we want to use again. The estimator was here a week ago today. Why it would take him a week to get an estimate to us is beyond me. It isn't like we're living in a 75 room mansion. Not to mention we were even able to provide him with the weight amount from the last move across the country. We have not added any additional furniture. It's frustrating because the moving company will not give us any boxes until the papers are signed....whatever. Just saying, I could have packed 15 boxes by now.

Trying to find a place to live is also a bit challenging. It's still a little bit too far out in the time line to find exactly what we want. We wanted to be out of here by the 3rd week of October and most places I'm finding online are available right now. We're hoping to find a townhouse or condo with a private owner. I've read some comical ads though. One that stands out gave all the details of the place. Then at the bottom of the ad it said: "No Smoking or Shoes." I totally get the no smoking part. Not a problem. But shoes? How exactly is this going to be enforced? Who knows, maybe there is some kind of secret surveillance. Sometimes we do walk through our house in shoes. It just happens.

Like A Tornado

My life.

Exactly 2 months from today Husband and I will jet off for another 3 week adventure in India. I just purchased the tickets. I can't believe we are going again so soon.
Before that we will pack up this entire house and move to a new state. I don't even think I will have time to unpack before this next trip.
We're also trying to plan a trip to Florida for Christmas.
He told me I should be looking for a job now.

My question is....Where is the time??!!
