That is special code for, I'll tell you all about it maybe tomorrow.
MK-Yes I'm finally back!
Husband and I returned this morning from Hawaii. We were on a plane all night long. The flight from HNL to SFO was over 5 hours long and then another 2 hour flight back home. It was exhausting.
We were sad to leave such a beautiful place, but definitely happy to be home.

Visitors
It looks like I might actually be having my first visitors at the end of August! Mary & Michelle (justsalt) are coming. This might could be the best news I've had since I got here last year.
Sure. Other people have come to this town such as my brother. He certainly was not here to see me. I consider you coming to see me if you make an effort to come to my house. Which you might remember he couldn't be bothered with.
One never knows just how long Husband and I will ever live in one place. If you snooze, you lose.
Yeah M & M!!!
I'm going to start planning fun activities for us when I return from Hawaii.
Bon Voyage to me.

File Under: Ridiculous
So in today's paper I read this curious little article concerning horn honking in this state. It left me in a state of WTF???!
Some poor guy wrote into the Q & A section of the paper about an incident he encountered not too long ago. He was sitting at a red light waiting to turn left. The light changed to green and the car in front of him did not go. When it looked like the car wasn't going to move, the poor guy honked his horn to wake up the obviously sleeping driver. As they finally moved through the light the poor guy got pulled over by a police officer and got a warning for honking at the car in front of him. He was told you are only to use your horn for emergencies. Being stuck at a red light because of some fucking idiot is not an emergency. There is even a state statute concerning this.
I believe this stupidity is part of the problem with this state. Everyone is trying to be a friendly driver. This includes cruising in the left lane at whatever speed you choose (slow) without regard to the 600 cars held up behind you. What it really comes down to is wasting time. If you want to waste your own time, go right ahead. How about leaving the rest of us out of it.
All I can say is you can take the girl out of the Beltway, but you can't take the Beltway out of the girl.

Another California Adventure
I just got back from sunny CA. What a summer! Now in just 2 weeks we'll be leaving for Hawaii. Whoa! I feel like I live out of a suitcase at this point.
This was supposed to be a "resting" vacation, if there is such a thing. Instead we ran ourselves ragged. It started with a drive north out of San Jose. Husband wanted to do the PCH drive. I asked him to study the map before we pulled out of the hotel in SJ. He glanced at it and figured out our route. Since he spends a lot of time in SJ these days I thought he knew the area pretty well. Unfortunately he should have really studied the map because we ended up driving over the Bay Bridge and through SF and then going west to get to the coast. A snafu which added and wasted a lot of time. All he really wanted to see was Half Moon Bay. We saw that and more. Much more. It was a grueling drive down, down, down the coast. Luckily we had a fuel savvy Prius and I very much enjoyed driving it. In fact, I want one bad.
Our real destination was the LA area. According to mapquest the quickest way to get there was to cut across in Cambria. That was a real nightmare. It was 70 miles of pure nothing. I have decided that there is nothing great about the state of CA unless you happen to find yourself on the coast. The rest of it sucks. The landscape reminds me of the moon. A barren wasteland. A giant traffic jam. One debris strewn, ghetto looking highway after another. As much as I don't really like living where I do, I'd much rather be here than there. At least my mountains look beautiful.
Anyway, after the 10 hour drive we reached our destination...exhausted. We couldn't even get up early to get to the "mouse house" when it opened like I planned. Somehow we did manage to get there and spend a good 12 hours. Everyone and half of Mexico was there. The longest we had to wait in line was about 35 minutes. Still, it wasn't as bad as I thought. We did utilize the fastpass thing, although we did not understand it at first. I thought you could just go around and collect your fastpasses. This is wrong. Once you get one, you get blocked from all the others for many hours. It worked for us though, but that sure was disappointing. I think we rode nearly every ride in the place. A new ride had opened recently...Finding "a Fish". The wait for that thing was at least 2 hours. I thought people must be crazy, especially when I saw it. It was nothing but a remodeled version of 20,000 Leagues. Ridiculous.
Mostly I just wanted to go to "mouse house" and see if it was like the one I've been to in FL like 100 times. In case you are wondering, it is. Just a little smaller. Believe me when I say, that is better.
The next day we went to another theme park. This one was full of roller coasters. Apparently everyone was still over at the "mouse house" because this place was empty. The longest wait we had was about 20 minutes. We could actually walk without stepping on people or getting run over by strollers. Very nice time. I was glad we went there last.
We took our time driving back up to SJ. That little Prius made it 400 miles before needing gas. We didn't stop once. It was the best!
